Professor Carter reminded that China's history is not subject to periodization developed by the West. Categories of modernism and postmodernism are not applicable to the description of Chinese art. He would call those tendencies rather as the complete modernization, that combins art and life. He mentioned of new interests in ink wash painting that goes beyond the traditional calligraphy.

Plenary session: Aesthetics beyond aesthetics (chair: Wolfhang Welsch, participants: Eduardo Kac, Peng Feng)

Professor Welsch recalled that he made the first lecture under this title (Aesthetics beyond aesthetics) during the congress in 1995. During today's meeting he referred to his earlier theory that he has reworked. Earlier, he said: "look (aesthetically) beyond art", now says rather: "look at art, but not in the traditional aesthetic way." We can find and name new non-artistic mechanisms in art. We have bio art, we use  natural processes to explain the artistic issues. The current trend in aesthetics is the moving away from the opposition of man vs. world. For a long time we've been going beyond the western model of art. At the end of his lecture Welsch mentioned that the perception of art is a kind of polyperception.

Prof. Michaela Ott i prof.

Prof. Michael Ott and prof. Adam Chmielewski mentioned an interesting concept of interpassivity. In response to the demands of interactivity, it is such a situation, in which the full aesthetisation of social relationships absorbs man fully. Thereby his attitude to the world around him becomes inactive.

Somaesthetics is a concept developed by Richard Shusterman within the aesthetics which is based on the experience of the world through the body. The body (soma) is the first and fundamental medium of a man. The body has its own expression which varies in time. Our body unites us in human species, but it can also divide us and separate. The body also has its own limitations - the condition of this medium has a direct impact on the way we perceive the world.

In one of
today's papers we could hear about an interesting artistic project from China (which was mentioned the first day by professor Curtis) - using the traditional ink wash painting technique on the example of the artist Pan Gongkai.
